This guidance was developed by the UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Latin America and the Caribbean, drawing on lessons learned from the earthquake response in Venezuela (June 2026) and adapted into practical guidance to support continuity of the HIV response following the August 2026 earthquake in Colombia.
It focuses on concrete actions to ensure uninterrupted access to antiretroviral treatment (ART), pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), while safeguarding confidentiality and human rights. It also proposes actions to strengthen referral systems, support community engagement to connect people with services, and promote the integration of HIV-related needs into emergency coordination and resource mobilization.
